Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Reach Divorce Settlement After 8-Year Legal Battle

After more than eight years of legal battles, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally reached a resolution in their divorce.

The two stars officially signed off on their separation on Monday, December 30, according to People magazine.

In a statement to People, Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, shared that the lengthy process, which began with Jolie filing for divorce more than eight years ago, has come to a close.

“Angelina and the children left all the properties they shared with Mr. Pitt, and since then, she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” Simon explained.

“This is just one part of a long ongoing process. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved that this chapter is finally over.”

A representative for Pitt declined to comment or confirm the details of the settlement.

Pitt and Jolie, who were together for a decade, married in August 2014, but their marriage faced trouble within two years. Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, citing irreconcilable differences after a tumultuous few years.

At the time of the filing, Jolie’s spokesperson stated that the decision was made “for the health of the family.” The couple shares six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

Following the divorce filing, Pitt faced an investigation by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services regarding an incident with their eldest son on a plane, but he was cleared by November 2016.

Although they were legally declared single in November 2019, the pair continued to fight in court over custody arrangements for their children and the ownership of their shared French winery, Château Miraval.
